The Cobb at Lyme Regis, situated close to Bonhays Meditation and Retreats Centre

Local Area

Bonhays is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of England. Designated an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the World Heritage Coastline just three miles away, the landscape here has a wonderful, nurturing presence.  Our village of Whitchurch Canonicorum has been associated with healing for many years. The saint connected with the church is not only a woman, but her relics are still present within the church. After she was martyred by the Danes in 831 her remains exuded an exceptional healing capacity and under her tomb is a shrine, a place of pilgrimage for hundreds of years.

An ancient coastline of dramatic cliffs, fossils and beautiful scenery.  Wonderful walks, great swimming, sand and pebble beaches all within a forty minute river walk from Bonhays or five minutes in the car.  Charmouth, our closest beach, is shallow and sandy.  Whereas Seatown and Eype beach are stony, steeply shelving and great swimming for the more adventurous.

Stonebarrow National Trust cliffs are within walking distance, amazing views, and you may catch a glimpse of the nesting pairs of peregrine falcons.

Our village of Whitchurch Canonicorum is situated in the Marshwood Vale five miles from Bridport, and four miles from Lyme Regis.  Both towns have a nationwide reputation for excellence in Food, the Arts and are great places to visit.  The street market in Bridport twice weekly is renowned as is the aesthetics of the seaside town of Lyme Regis with the famous Cobb, beach, great pubs and one of the best fish and chip shops!
